NAMI Minnesota holds a peer-led dual diagnosis support groups for adults living with both a mental illness and an addiction such as chemical dependency. The support group meets weekly for 90 minutes. Participants learn skills to help them deal with their addiction and gain support from people who understand the challenges of having a mental illness and an addiction. As part of our a six-session educational series entitled, “Strengthening Families: Living with Mental Illness”, we have incorporated two NAMI “Hope for Recovery” classes. Hope for Recovery is a weekend class intended for people who have a family member or friend living with a mental illness, and their loved one who is in a good place in their mental health recovery.
